Imaginations Run Wild At WonderWorks

Posted in Attractions

Did you know that Broadway at the Beach is home to the only WonderWorks in the Carolinas?

The "upside down house" on the southwestern side of Lake Broadway is one of the coolest landmarks in Myrtle Beach. But it wasn't even there when Broadway at the Beach opened.

Legend has it that WonderWorks was carried on the wind over thousands of miles before landing in Myrtle Beach. It began as a secret science laboratory deep in the Bermuda Triangle. There, a great scientist named Professor Wonder labored at creating a man-made tornado. But his experiment failed terribly, causing the building to be torn from its moorings and transported by the force of an uncontrollable wind. Its journey ended where it stands today, and it became home to over 100 interactive, hands-on exhibits.

WonderWorks is the one place where you can experience the fury of a category 1 hurricane and emerge without a scratch. You can impress your friends by laying safely on a bed of 3,500 sharp nails. And you can shake, rattle and scream while on a hair-raising, realistic ride through spectacular virtual scenery, courtesy of the XD Theater 6D Extreme Motion-Simulated Thrill Ride's 3D films, special effects, full motion seats and surround sound.

There's even a place for a little competitive Lazer-Tag inside a cavernous 2,100 square foot high-tech action center. And this year a new WonderWorks Kids Zone is being added to entertain younger family members.

There are only five WonderWorks in the entire world and it's one of the many attractions that make Broadway at the Beach a very special place to visit.
