$5,000 Raised for Blue Star Mothers During Broadway At The Beach's Great American Summer Nights

More Than 1,000 Cards Created For Mail For The Military Campaign

October 7, 2019, Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Broadway at the Beach is honored to announce that its summer partnership with Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina raised thousands of dollars, as well as more than 1,000 letters, notes and cards for military members.

Broadway at the Beach and Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina partnered for the Great American Summer Nights celebration this summer to encourage people to give back to our military with words of appreciation and monetary donations.

"We are overwhelmed by the generosity of those visiting Broadway at the Beach and thank everyone who helped make this such a tremendous success," said Sharon Russell of Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina. "Our men and women in uniform who are deployed around the world greatly appreciate receiving Hero Boxes and letters from home. It lets them know they have not been forgotten, and the funds collected will certainly help us spread even more cheer in the coming months. A portion of those funds are used to honor veterans who are buried at Florence National Cemetery with a beautiful wreath in December, as part of the Wreaths Across America program."

Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. These mothers support each other and their children while promoting patriotism. Nationwide there are more than 6,000 members from more than 200 chapters throughout the nation.

During this summer's campaign, guests of Broadway at the Beach were encouraged to write a note of thanks to our troops at the Mail For Our Military corner in the Guest Services Center. More than 1,000 unique letters, cards and pictures drawn by children were collected throughout the summer and will be sent out in care packages for the troops.

Broadway at the Beach also collected loose change from the fountains throughout the property, and sold red, white and blue souvenir bracelets at the Guest Services Center for a $1 donation. In total, $5,000 was raised and all of the proceeds from both initiatives were presented in a check to the Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina.

"We're honored to have partnered with Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina this summer," said Melissa Armstrong, director of marketing for Burroughs & Chapin, parent company of Broadway at the Beach. "We're very thankful to our guests for making their donation, with time or money, and showing their appreciation for the sacrifices our servicemen, servicewomen and their families make on behalf of our country."
